Dragonflies are the Biggest Predators of Mosquitos, Here’s Which Plants You Need to Keep in Your Yard to Attract Them

Dragonflies – The Natural Pest Control Against Mosquitos

Did you know that you don’t have to use harsh and toxic chemicals to keep mosquitos at bay? All you need to do is make sure your yard is home to dragonflies, the biggest predators of mosquitos. These quite creatures eat hundreds of mosquitos a day, which makes them the safest natural pest control. If you manage to attract dragonflies to your yard, mosquitos will never be problem again. They will come especially handy during high mosquito season. The best thing about them is that the dragonflies eat mosquitos in both the larval phase and as adults.

How to Attract Dragonflies

Create a pond

Dragonflies spend the majority of their life under water, which is why creating a pond in your backyard is the best way to attract them. The pond should be about a feet or two deep and 10-15 feet in diameter. Scatter some rock around it so that the dragonflies will have where to rest and enjoy the summer sun. If digging out a pond is not doable in your yard you can always use a kids pool as a replacement.

Add Some Water Plants

When the pond part is complete, next you need to add some water plants to it. Water lilies for example. Dragonflies lay their eggs in these plants so they need water plants if you want to keep them around. Glyceria Maxima is a good plant for this purpose as it has the perfect leaves and stems for the dragonflies to climb onto.
