According to a study published in the Journal of Dietary Supplements green amaranth has great potential in the treatment of diabetes.
India’s Al Shifa College of Pharmacy conducted the study to look at the effect of green amaranth extract in the treatment of induced diabetes in mice. In addition to this, they looked at the plant’s antioxidant properties.
The study results showed that green amaranth extract can significantly lower the mice’s blood sugar levels. The mice were given 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg of the extract, orally, for a period of 2 weeks. In addition to this, the extract significantly lowered hyperglycemia-associated oxidative damage and improved the serum biochemical parameters connected to diabetes.
The scientists that conducted the study were able to conclude that green amaranth extract can successfully be used as a remedy for diabetes.
