How to Clean the Mattress of your Bed?

Cleaning the mattress of your bed is one of the most difficult and most neglected things to do. The mattress requires an appropriate cleaning, especially since you spend a third of the day on it. It absorbs the sweat from your body which can provide it with an unpleasant smell. Also, it may contain some stains, dead skin cells, dust and dust mites which can cause allergic reactions. The dust mites are also responsible for causing asthma in 10% of the population. Contrary to popular belief, cleaning your mattress can be very simple and effortless. Here are some easy tips which will help you to clean your mattress.

Vacuum your Mattress

In order to remove the dust from the mattress of your bed, you should simply vacuum it. Keep in mind that you should use a clean vacuum attachment because your vacuum cleans all kinds of things which may deposit on your mattress. If you want to keep your mattress free from any dust, you can vacuum it only once a season.

Deodorize your Mattress

If you want to deodorize the mattress of your bed, you should use baking soda. What you need to do is to sift baking all over your mattress and let it stay for about 30 minutes. After half an hour, vacuum it up. The baking soda is one of the best natural deodorizers because it has an ability to neutralize any unpleasant smell. Optionally, you can add 5 drops of your favorite essential oil to the baking soda which will provide your mattress with an enjoyable scent.

Clean the Stains from your Mattress

There are three types of stains, protein, tannin and grease stains. Usually, the protein stains are the only ones that end up on your mattress. These stains occur as a result of some bodily fluids, such as sweat, vomit, blood and urine. In order to remove these stains, you should clean them with a cool cloth. First you should clean them with a cold wet cloth and, you should remove the excess moisture with a dry cloth afterwards. You should clean the stains by using a pressing motion, rather than a circular motion which will worsen the stains.

Alternatively, you can remove fresh protein stains by making a mixture of baking soda, salt and water. By mixing equal parts of these three ingredients, you will create a paste which is effective in removing the stains from your mattress. Put this paste on the stain, rub the area, leave it for 30 minutes and, brush it off afterwards. Then, you should wipe the stain with a cool wet cloth. Once you allow it to dry, the mattress will be free from any stains.
