Our Kids Need Grandparents More Than We Realize

The bond between children and grandparents is truly amazing. It’s not like the bond between a child and their mother. It’s something truly unique, a bond that only grandparents and children can share. But, have you ever wondered if there are any long-lasting effects of this relationship? What’s the effect on both?

A study conducted at Boston College says that it’s even deeper than we realize. Emotionally close ties between children and their grandparents reduce symptoms of depression in both groups. The study was conducted on nearly 400 grandparents and children over 19 years, so it’s pretty indicative of the results.

This is certainly an impressive find. Additionally, the study also revealed other interesting findings that come out of this close-knit relationship. Read more about them below.

Grandchildren Run to Their Grandparents for Comfort

Whenever children run into any kind of trouble, they’re more likely to run for comfort to their grandparents. They often turn for advice to them instead of their parents – that’s how close they are.

Grandparents have plenty of experience behind them, and they can pass their knowledge to children like old masters. They will teach them important life lessons about overcoming obstacles or dealing with loss and everything else. Grandparents are the best people to ask for advice simply because they have unmatched experience.

Excellent Mentors

When children are looking for mentors, they often turn to their grandparents. And that’s a great thing. Grandparents are willing to share their knowledge and wisdom, making them the perfect mentor.

Children look at grandparents as a source of stability. Whenever they’re facing a crisis, they know that they can rely on the wise words of their granma or granpa.

They Don’t Take Themselves Seriously

Grandparents never take themselves seriously, and that’s why they’re so great with children. They are always happy and bright and can offer valuable lessons in life. To put it simply, they’re like the perfect friend.

They Don’t Look Back

Grandparents live firmly in the present. They don’t look back or want a peek into the future. They have already done the hard work and are now looking to enjoy their lives. That’s why their grandchildren love them so much.

They Provide Unconditional Love and Support

No matter how close or distant, grandparents love their grandchildren with all their heart. They offer unconditional love and support no one can break. While a mother’s and father’s love is irreplaceable, the same can be said for grandparents.

As you can see, grandparents have a grand effect on children. The next time you are rethinking your decision to leave your kid with your Ma or Pa, don’t think twice. Some people don’t even have that opportunity, so be grateful for it. Trust us – your kid is going to love the time spent with his grandparents.
