Dalmatian Has Record-Breaking 18 Puppies

When our pet is pregnant, it would be great if we knew how many puppies the litter will have. Sometimes, there are just a few, but what happens if she gives birth to 10 or more? Madness – that’s what happens.

From potential adopters to space, everyone wants to know how many puppies their dog will have. Unfortunately, it’s not something you can tell easily.

Cecilia Lanton-Bunkergot owns a Dalmatian called Miley she loves very much. After Miley got pregnant, Cecilia and her husband were excited to meet the little pups. After taking her to a vet, he predicted a litter of three. Cecilia was happy since they didn’t have the space for more pups. Now, predicting how many puppies a litter may have is not an easy job. It takes years of training and you can still be off target. Just like in this case, when the vet was off target by 15!

You can imagine Cecilia’s surprise when Miley gave birth to 18 pups! EIGHTEEN! It set a record for biggest dog litter of all time – the average for a Dalmatian is 10. Of course, a dog’s first pregnancy produces fewer puppies than the average, but that wasn’t the case with Miley.

Remember the movie 101 Dalmatians? Miley drew rightful comparison to it. In the movie, the breeders predicted around 15 pups, but just like Miley’s case, they were off target.

13 Hours of Labor

It took Miley a painful 13 hours to deliver the litter. There are 12 girls and 6 boys in it. Due to the number of pups, Cecilia and her husband are helping Miley cope with it. There’s always a fresh supply of milk for the hungry gang.

With that many puppers, the breeders have put a dyed dot on the neck of each. When they grow up, they will get collars. Miley’s record-breaking litter has already caused a stir online. It’s the largest Dalmatian litter in Australia out of 40,000 that have been recorded.

Way to go, girl!
