One Chicago Couple Cancelled Their Big Wedding and Donated the Food to People in Need

The corona virus pandemic has had such a big impact on all our live. We had to learn to live differently, socialize differently, travel differently and apparently celebrate big, important events completely differently. Some of the people who were hit with this new reality were the couples who had scheduled their wedding for this year. Some of them had to cancel their celebrations while others had to postpone them until further notice.

One such couple was Emily Bugg and Billy Lewis from Chicago, who dreamed of getting married in a big, romantic ceremony, surrounded with all of their friends and family. They had set up a date and even made some arrangements for this year but the pandemic happened and they had to rethink everything. They had two options, to either reschedule the wedding or cancel the ceremony completely. In light of everything that had happened, the couple realized that they wanted to get married more than they wanted to have a big wedding so they decided to cancel the celebration and get married in City Hall.

But since they had already paid the caterers an amount of 5000 USD they had to figure out what to do with the food. They didn’t want to ask for a refund so they decided to use the food for a good cause. They asked the caterers if it was possible to give out the food they intended for the wedding for Thanksgiving dinner for people who didn’t have any. The caterers agreed and instead of preparing wedding food they prepared traditional Thanksgiving dinner, with mashed potatoes, turkey and even desert.

The food Emily and Billy donated fed about 200 people I need and it really made a difference for all of those people. Their act of kindness really warms out hearts and we hope that it will serve as an inspiration to many more to follow in their footsteps. They were able to turn a bad thing, cancelling their wedding, into a good deed, and we will eternally be grateful for their kind hearts.
