Wash Your Hands Frequently – It Could Save Lives!

In these pandemic times, we’ve all grown used to washing our hands zillions of times every day. When we can’t wash them, we use antibacterial soaps and gels that supposedly kill bacteria and keep our hands clean. While that’s true for most brands, studies have shown that ingredients in antibacterial soaps and gels don’t prevent infections more than the regular soap-water combo.

As a matter of fact, doctors recommend washing our hands for at least 30 seconds with warm water and soap as a way to prevent different infections including COVID-19. However, since we can’t wash them all the time, a good antibacterial wash is the next best thing.

Washing our hands frequently nowadays has become a necessity. We should wash them after:

  • Going outside, especially after market visits;
  • Coughing and sneezing;
  • Eating;
  • Using the bathroom.

If you ask us, this should remain a “rule” even after the pandemic is over. People underestimate the importance of washing hands frequently, and that’s how viruses and bacteria can spread. We need to keep that in mind about it now more than ever.

How to Wash Your Hands Properly

When washing our hands, we should definitely pay attention to the areas between our fingers. Don’t forget about the fingernails too. You’ll need a good amount of soap and a nice wash that lasts for 20-30 seconds. When done, rinse with plenty of water. It doesn’t need to be scalding hot – lukewarm water will do nicely.

When you’re done, dry your hands with a clean towel. Don’t forget – germs move easier through wet hands. In cases when you can’t wash your hands, you should use a quality hand sanitizer. The best ones will have at least 60% alcohol. It kills bacteria and germs pretty effectively, although as we mentioned, nothing can replace a good soap-water hand washing combo.
