Five Dangerous Child Things You Need to be Aware About

There’s no question that parents are ready to do just about anything to see their cutie smile. Sometimes, however, things go a bit too far. Many parents will spend huge amounts of cash on things they believe will keep their children satisfied. These include everything from jumpers as gadgets.

Parents do it without realizing the harm these things do. While a tablet will keep your child occupied for a while, it can actually cause quite a bit of retinal damage to their still developing eyes. Other stuff is also harmful for your children while being advertised as safe.

We’ve picked the top five most dangerous things for your child you should know about.

Seat Belts

Pregnant women often seat belts in the car just like others – the seat belt goes over the belly. This is very wrong. In case of an accident, wearing a seat belt like that can cause serious injury to the baby. Instead, you should put the seat belt under your abdomen and make sure it stays that way. If you must drive while pregnant, try to sit upright instead of leaning forward. Better yet, don’t drive at all – just get a taxi or Uber.

Walkers and Jumpers

You know those baby walkers and jumperoos everyone uses these days? Well, they’ve been banned in Canada, and not without reason. As it turns out, these devices cause more than 8,000 injuries annually in the USA. They can also cause spine curvature, uneven muscle strengthening, and even feet and leg deformations in some cases. While they can be helpful, walkers and jumpers should be used around 15 minutes per day under strict supervision.

Bright Toys

Here’s something unusual for this list. Brightly colored toys can apparently cause aggressive behavior, groundless fears, and even depression. How and why? Children explore the world around them and get social attitude through toys. Naturally-colored toys, that is. Any color that’s not natural disperses their thinking development, causing personality formation problems.

Warm Clothes

We get it – everyone wants to keep their child as warm as possible. However, warm clothes can sometimes do more harm. Infants have bad thermoregulation. They overheat and supercool constantly, so dressing them in too warm clothes can lead to a stroke. At the same time, warm clothes also impedes the development of defense reactions toward weather changes which can result in low immunity and other problems.

Milk and Juice

Are you giving your baby milk and juice? While pasteurized fruit juice has some vitamins, it’s rich in sugar that could lead to obesity and dental problems. Fresh juices should only be given to children aged 1+. Before that, it’s best to give your baby fresh fruit.

When it comes to milk, many believe that feeding their children with cow’s milk is great for their overall development and skeletal system. While true, cow’s milk is also high in nutrients your baby doesn’t need. Too much of it can lead to several problems including allergies and anemia.
