A Photographer Tracks Down People He Snapped Pics of Decades Ago to Recreate Their Pics

Chris Porsz is a Brit paramedic and an amateur photographer for over 40 years. Living in Cambridgeshire his whole life, Porsz took pictures of people and landscapes he found interesting. It resulted in a huge library of pictures that shows the beautiful side of people of all walks of life.

After 40 years, now retired, Porsz had an idea – recreating his favourite pics in a modern setting. To do this, he set out to find the people he took pics of all those years ago, and surprisingly, many of them recognized themselves.

Successful Recreations

To track the people down, Porsz posted pictures on Facebook, his website, and in the papers. After the first few successful restorations, he decided to do more. His work was successful and he was very happy to find the people from his snaps back in the day who agreed to do the restorations. His work was published in a book called Reunions, where the pictures and recreations are printed side by side.

Ever since he took those pics 40 years ago, Porsz had his mind on the book. He believes that it’s a special and unique project, and it’s definitely one of the very few of its kind.

A Strong Love for Photography

The ex-paramedic found his love for photographic at the end of the 1970s. It was the same time he got his first camera and the time when his son was born. He quickly outgrew family photos and began searching the streets for fresh inspiration. England in the 1970s was a time of punk-rock, so his works included a lot of punks on the streets with bright-colored hairs.

The photos were developed in a dark room in his home. He saves the best ones in an album, and bit by bit, photography became his obsession. He loved taking pictures of people on the streets that stood out in one way or another.

In the 1980s, life became a bit busy for Chris, so he pushed photography aside. He already had three children and worked non-stop as a paramedic, so he didn’t have a lot of time for snapping pics. However, in 2009, he decided to bring back to his old love, starting the recreation project.

He sent some of his works to a local paper and posted the pics on his website and Facebook page with an explanation. People began writing to him soon, so he was able to recreate many of his favorite pics.
